Equipment

  • 1 Medium saucepan For simmering strawberry syrup
  • 1 Fine-mesh sieve For straining syrup
  • 1 Large pitcher At least 64 oz for mixing tea
  • 1 Wooden spoon For stirring tea and syrup
  • 1 Long-handled spoon To stir in a tall pitcher
  • 6 Glass jars Optional, for serving

Ingredients

Fresh Strawberry Syrup Base

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries Hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

Sweet Tea Foundation

  • 8 bags black tea Or 3 tablespoons loose leaf tea
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda Optional, for smoother flavor
  • 4 cups cold water
  • ice cubes For serving
  • fresh strawberries For garnish, optional
  • fresh mint sprigs Optional garnish

Instructions

  • Simmer the strawberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat until the berries are soft and syrupy, about 10–15 minutes.
  • Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher. Discard solids and let the syrup cool.
  • In a separate container, steep tea bags in boiling water for 5–10 minutes depending on desired strength.
  • Add ¾ cup sugar and baking soda to hot tea. Stir until dissolved.
  • Remove tea bags and let the sweetened tea cool slightly.
  • Pour the cooled strawberry syrup into the tea and mix well.
  • Add cold water and stir to combine.
  • Refrigerate the tea for at least 2 hours until thoroughly chilled.
  • Serve over ice with fresh strawberry slices and mint sprigs if desired.
