Ingredients

Main:

  • 1 loaf brioche bread about 16 oz slightly stale or oven-dried
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon maple syrup plus more for serving
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon butter melted for greasing dish

Topping:

  • 0.33 cup brown sugar
  • 0.33 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoon cold butter cubed
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional

Instructions

  • Cube brioche and add to greased baking dish
  • Whisk together custard ingredients
  • Pour custard over bread and press gently
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight
  • Prepare streusel topping
  • Let casserole come to room temp
  • Sprinkle topping evenly over casserole
  • Bake at 350°F for 45–55 minutes
  • Let rest before serving with warm syrup
